Federal rules (USPS Form 1583) require signing up in person with two forms of ID, one with a photo. We handle the paperwork at the counter, hand you a key, and your address works immediately. Want to check box availability first? Call (253) 858-6342.
Two forms of ID to open your mailbox
Every adult on the box needs one photo ID and one proof of address (they can't be the same document), plus a signed USPS Form 1583 — we handle that at the counter.
1 — Photo ID (must be non-expired)
- Driver's license or state / territory / tribal ID
- U.S. passport, passport card, or foreign passport
- Uniformed service (military) ID
- U.S. Access Card
- University ID (public or private)
- Matrícula Consular card
- NEXUS card
- Certificate of Naturalization
- Permanent Resident card
2 — Proof of address (can't repeat ID #1)
- A second driver's license or state / tribal ID
- Current lease
- Mortgage or deed of trust
- Home or vehicle insurance policy
- Vehicle registration card
- Voter registration card
Not accepted: utility bills, membership / employee / corporate ID cards, birth certificate, Social Security card, or credit cards. Opening a mailbox for a business? Bring the place of registration (county + state) — a separate Form 1583 is needed per business name.
